COVID-19 Implications for Water Hygiene

13th March 2020

We have had some reports from our members of end users planning to shut down businesses and their associated water systems as contingency planning for the COVID-19 outbreak.

Please be aware that there are implications arising from this water stagnation that need to be carefully managed to avoid other undesirable consequences such as Legionnaires’ disease.

General Advice for Members

A basic risk template can be created to monitor members of staff who may be at higher risk of infection or of greater impact should the virus take hold. This can be used to inform clients of your company’s current status and help track any potential circumstances that may arise.

Key points to consider may be:

• Confirmation that staff you will routinely come into contact with have not displayed any symptoms of COVID-19

• We can confirm that staff you will routinely come into contact with have not recently travelled to a country deemed as high risk by the UK Government.

• We can confirm that that staff you will routinely come into contact with have not, so far as we have been made aware, had any contact with anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19.

Our suggestion would be to confirm this with your clients and ask if they can provide the same type of assurances.

The information in this communication is based on the government guidance as of the 12th of March 2020.  We will review our communication as and when the guidance evolves.
