John Smith

John S. Smith, Technical Director at Hydroviron Ltd. 

John spent the first two years of his career in industrial laboratories and has since worked with major UK and International clients providing water treatment, legionella control and training services

He was a member of the Water Management Society Technical Committee for a number of years and is a past Chairman of the British Chemical Association (BCA) water treatment group and a member of the Legionella Control Association (LCA) Management Committee. He chairs the LCA Standards & Technical Committee and in this role produced the nine LCA industry standards regarding the delivery of legionella control services implemented by the LCA in May 2010. John is the current Chair of the LCA Management Committee.

In addition John has been  a member of a number of steering groups regarding a wide range of water treatment & Legionella control matters including leading the industry group re Cleaning, disinfection & inspection of evaporative cooling systems for HSG 274 part 1.

He also played a major role in developing the first National Qualifications in Water Treatment at Levels 2 & 3 QCF and was chair of the industry steering group which assisted Cogent (Sector Skills Council for Science Based Industries) in producing these qualifications. Hydroviron is an Approved RQF Qualification Centre.

This work has subsequently led to John being heavily involved in the development of and obtaining government approval and funding for the first Apprenticeship programme in water treatment and legionella control, which will hopefully commence in early 2023.
