Lizzie Ward, Managing Director of SAS Water Ltd for 15 years, working with a team of legionella consultants and commercial plumbers at the Staffordshire based business.
Originally from a teaching background, Lizzie joined her father at the family business, then known as Safe and Secure, before taking the reins in winter 2011. Perhaps because of her previous career, Lizzie leads with a passion to grow knowledge and to educate business leaders about actions needed to ensure safe water in the workplace.
This has led to her giving educational workshops to companies, business organisations, and reaching out on social media, particularly on LinkedIn.
Lizzie said: “It is clear, many business leaders don’t know they are required by law to provide a Legionella risk assessment, have access to competent help and advice, and provide information and training to their staff. I strongly believe leaders in the legionella control industry must work hard to change this.”
In house at SAS Water, Lizzie sees that education is vital with all team members meeting each month for practical training sessions. She is an advocate for apprenticeships, recently adding two trainee commercial plumbers to her team. while forging strong links with a local college.
Lizzie is a strong advocate for the LCA and has represented our organisation at events such as the major SPATEX expo held annually in Coventry.
Her tireless work as champion for the industry, coupled with business leadership and networking skills, led to a desire to support the work of the LCA as a committee member.
