Double sentence for Legionella failure

TWO PEOPLE have been sentenced after failing to control the risk of exposure to Legionella bacteria in the cooling tower at their business premises in Spring Hill, Birmingham. Birmingham Magistrates’ Court heard that, between June 2017 and February 2018, Kulwant Singh Chatha and partner Satpaul Kaur Chatha of Isher Hangers failed to put suitable measures in place to control the risk of Legionella bacteria from the cooling tower on their premises. Concerns raised by their own water treatment consultants were ignored, and no Legionella risk assessments were in place.

LCA Management Committee Changes

Howard Barnes and Bill Thomas have stepped down from the LCA Management Committee making way for new committee members. Howard has spent 42 years in water treatment and has enjoyed an international career with one of the larger LCA member companies. Howard is retiring from Nalco Water, but he mentions ‘there is life in the old dog yet!!!’ Bill has spent more than 30 years in water treatment and legionella control including founding and managing an international independent consultancy, ISHEM. Ongoing Review of the LCA

The LCA requires our Members to review their own procedures at least once per year with an internal review. Within the LCA, the standards Subcommittee of the LCA Management Committee undertakes a similar process to ensure we meet the needs of today and are in line with current best practice. The Sub-committee meets monthly to review all LCA published documents and standards on a rolling basis.
